High School Musical Hen Party Dance Class Blackpool

A high school musical hen party dance class in Blackpool for the group who grew up copying it in a bedroom mirror — gym-hall arms, a chant nobody planned, and a unison finish you can read from the back of the room. Why this one lands in Blackpool

The dance everybody learned in a school hall.

Ask a room of thirty-somethings to name a routine they already half-know and this is what comes back, faster than anything else on our hen party dance class list. It was the first thing a lot of them ever copied off a telly, which means the choreographer starts a hen do dance class here about ten minutes ahead of where she'd normally be. The shapes are big and open — arms out, weight low, everybody facing the same way — so a group of eight reads as well as a group of twenty-six and nobody gets to hide at the back.

What makes it a proper dance hen party rather than a singalong is the unison. Nearly every section has the whole room doing the same thing at the same moment, which sounds simple and then becomes the funniest part of the afternoon on the first run-through. We build it in short blocks, an eight at a time, repeated until the back row stops counting out loud, and add a call-and-response section if the group has the nerve for it. There's no fixed setlist — the tracks get chosen with you, and how far the basketball-court section goes is the choreographer's call once she's seen the room. Wildcats red, gold, jerseys with the bride's new surname across the shoulders: all lovely, all yours to bring, because we don't supply costumes, props or shoes.

It suits a Blackpool weekend particularly well, because it's a hen party activity that runs happily at two in the afternoon and still leaves everyone standing for the evening on the Promenade. Groups who want more stage and less gym hall usually land on the Musicals class instead; if it's pom-poms and pyramid energy they're chasing, Cheerleading is the nearer cousin. And if somebody comes out of it hooked, our weekly classes in town are there on the other fifty-one weekends of the year.

In the price

One fee for the whole room: £185 plus the venue.

Nearly every group takes the ninety minutes for this one, because unison needs drilling. Room hire is the single thing on top, quoted before you commit — and it vanishes altogether when we come to your hotel. If you've been comparing high school musical dance class hen party prices across Blackpool, note this one is for the whole party, not per person.

How the time usually goes

Ninety minutes, gym-hall style.

The warm-up is sneakily already the routine: travelling steps across the floor, arms up, everybody moving before anyone has decided whether they're embarrassed. From there the choreographer takes the opening section apart into eights and loops them, adding a bit more each time until the room can manage a chunk without being told. Because the theme lives on unison, most of the middle stretch goes on tidying rather than adding — the same move, cleaner, together.

The last half hour puts it end to end. There's usually a passage where two halves of the room answer each other, then a finish with the bride out front for as long as she'll tolerate being looked at. Ninety minutes leaves room to run the whole thing twice, once for the group and once with the cameras out, plus a daft group photo to finish. Treat that as the usual pattern rather than a running order we're promising; how the time splits is decided in the room on the day.

Afterwards

The verdict from the back row.

Sixteen of us, ages nineteen to sixty-one, and the sixty-one-year-old was the one shouting the counts by the end. Best two hours of the whole weekend.

I booked it as a joke because the bride was obsessed with it in 2008. Nobody was treating it as a joke ten minutes in.

Twenty-one of us and it still looked tidy. I genuinely don't know how she got that many people doing the same arms.

Everything else about the Wildcats bit.

IDo we need to know the High School Musical films?

Not really. Most groups know the choruses and that is plenty, and the choreographer teaches the movement from scratch either way. If nobody can quote a single line we'll simply lean on the numbers with the strongest beat.

IIWhich High School Musical songs do you use?

Usually the big ensemble ones, because they're written for a whole room moving at once. Which of them carries the routine gets settled with your group beforehand, and if the bride has one she'd walk down the aisle to, in it goes. Nothing is locked before the day.

IIIIs a High School Musical hen party idea too young for a mixed-age group?

It's one of the better hen party ideas we get for wide age gaps. The steps are big and steady rather than fast, so a fifteen-year spread in the room evens itself out inside ten minutes.

IVWhat should we wear to the High School Musical class?

Anything you can move in — leggings, trainers, whatever's comfortable. Wildcats red, jerseys and matching hoodies all photograph beautifully, but they come from your side of things: we don't supply costumes, props or shoes.

VHow many people can do the High School Musical routine at once?

Small parties and big ones both work, and the unison sections scale up better than most themes do. Send us a rough number and the choreographer sizes the formations to whatever floor we've got.

VIWhere in Blackpool does the High School Musical class run?

Our own bookings run in the function room we hire on Hornby Road (FY1 4RD): town centre, close enough to the Winter Gardens to walk it, and the exact room gets confirmed once your date is in. The other option is us coming to you — if the hotel or apartment you have booked has a function room, or a lounge that clears, that works just as well.
